Flossie Leola (Hodges) Gabbert (d. 7 Nov 2016)

She was a member of an outstanding and distinguished United Methodist families of Adair County and South Central Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Rev. M.B. & Flossie Riggs Hodges, and the widow of James Gabbert, her husband of 60 years. She leaves three direct living descendants and many close relatives in this area. She was raised in a Christian home that was the foundation of her life. Leola was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church; her beautiful alto voice sang in the choir and gospel music brought her great joy throughout her life. She had a pure heart filled with goodness and lived her life a faithful servant of the Lord. She was employed at the American Tobacco Company and a retiree of Bell South.

Flossie Leola Hodges Gabbert, age 86 years of Louisville, KY, formerly of Adair County, KY, passed from this earth and into the arms of Jesus on November 7, 2016. She was a resident of Heartsong Memory Care in Louisville, KY.

Funeral service will be at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at 10amCT/11amET, with visitation on Wednesday, November 09, 2016 from 10am-7pmCT/11am-8pmET, and Thursday prior to service. Burial at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville, KY.



Leola was born in Bonnieville, KY to parents, Reverend M. B. & Flossie Riggs Hodges. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her cherished husband of 60 years, James Gabbert; son, Billy Dean Gabbert; brother, Hartsell Hodges; and nephew, Terry Hodges.

Leola was raised in a Christian home that was the foundation of her life. Leola was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church; her beautiful alto voice sang in the choir and gospel music brought her great joy throughout her life. She had a pure heart filled with goodness and lived her life a faithful servant of the Lord.

Leola was employed at the American Tobacco Company and a retiree of Bell South.

She is survived by:
  • Her sister & brother-in-law: Frances & Nelson Branham of Columbia, KY

  • Her sister-in-law: Mildred Hodges of Columbia, KY

  • Devoted daughter-in-law: Sandra Gail Gabbert

  • Granddaughter: Dana Brentzel (Kirk)

  • Grandson: Derek Gabbert

  • Great grandchildren: Jada & Sonny

  • Nieces: Pat Coomer of Cecilia, KY; & Kathy Dean of Columbia, KY

  • And nephews: Daryl Branham of Columbia, KY; Mike Hodges of Bowling Green, KY; and Tony Hodges of Glens Fork, KY
