Jacob Saylor: Campus Kitchen at LWC grows with local support Donations from community partners and community members fuel growth at the Campus Kitchen at Lindsey Wilson College Click on headline for full story with photo(s) By Jacob Saylor News from Campus Kitchen at Lindsey Wilson College Food donations from community partners are critical in keeping the Campus Kitchen at Lindsey Wilson College (CKLWC) a viable resource in feeding those in need. CKLWC is thriving because of the efforts of those in our community to keep things running smoothly. From our community partners who donate the food, to volunteers who pick up the food and prepare it, this couldn't happen without their help. Over the past month, the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining and Conference Center, one of the primary community partners of CKLWC, donated approximately 250 pounds of food to CKLWC. Kelley Yates, Administration Manager for CKLWC, said, "This means that 250 pounds was not thrown away, but it was repurposed and given as a meal to families here in Adair County. When we first started Campus Kitchen, we didn't know how much food we would be able to collect, but the Lord provides." IGA has also been an important community partner donating food to CKLWC as well. On Saturday, October 29, CKLWC posted to the Instagram page saying, "Thanks to amazing donations from our local [IGA] and individual donors, our clients are receiving grocery bags with bread, peanut butter, and other supplies. Altogether, we're sending out 67.5 pounds of additional groceries to our 50 clients!" The grocery bags were a supplement to the meals that clients were already receiving. The Community Garden, maintained by Dr. Mike Bosela and students at LWC and other members of the community, has been a constant food donor as a community partner over the duration of the school year. They have committed a great deal of their harvested crops, ranging from red peppers to kale, to CKLWC to use in preparing meals for clients in need. Individual donors have also made an impact on CKLWC efforts in a positive way, as well. At LWC's 23rd Annual Safe Halloween, 46 nonperishable food items were donated by members of the community who attended the event. It was a great yield that will help feed numerous more clients in periods where the volunteer force has been depleted and not as much food can be collected. There are many roles required to keep things moving with CKLWC, and students of LWC and residents of Adair and surrounding counties have all contributed to these roles. Abby Biddle, Student Program Coordinator for CKLWC, said, "Thank you Columbia for being so generous and I hope we keep getting the same ,or even more, food donations." From the Campus Kitchen at Lindsey Wilson College, we would like to say thank you to everyone who has helped us feed members of our community who may not have had access to food otherwise. If you would like to assist the CKatLWC in any way, whether it be volunteering when opportunities arise for community members or donating non-perishable food items and other things necessary for sustaining this project, please contact Natalie Vickous, the Bonner Program Coordinator, or Abby Biddle through email at cklwc@lindsey.edu or through Vickous's office number (270) 384-7469.
