Christy Trout named ABC Commissioner

HISTORIC APPOINTMENT: First for Kentucky Women

FRANKFORT, KY (Fri 30 Sep 2016) - A native of Letcher County will lead the state agency that regulates Kentucky's alcohol industry and enforces alcohol laws throughout the Commonwealth. Christy Trout is the first woman to serve as commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC). Public Protection Cabinet Secretary David A. Dickerson announced Trout's appointment today.



"Christy is an enthusiastic leader and consummate professional," said Secretary Dickerson. "She has experience in regulatory compliance through her law practice that will serve the department well."

Most recently, Trout served as a Special Assistant at ABC and was previously Chief of Staff in the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet. Trout clerked for a federal judge before founding Trout Law Office in Lexington where she concentrated in commercial litigation and federal criminal defense. She is a 2014 graduate of both Leadership Kentucky and Commerce Lexington's Emerging Leader program. She serves on the boards of the LFUCG Economic Development Investment Board, Opportunity for Work & Learning and Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky.

"I am honored to provide leadership to the ABC which provides oversight to one of Kentucky's signature industries," said Commissioner Trout. "This is an exciting opportunity and I look forward to working with the team of professionals at the department. We are committed to support Governor Bevin and Secretary Dickerson to provide an environment where businesses thrive in a community that is a safe and responsible."

Trout earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Louisville and graduated from the College of Law at the University of Kentucky. She grew up in the Letcher County town of Whitesburg and now resides in Lexington.
