LWC Singers Perform in Capitol Rotunda; honored by Gov. Matt Bevin's Office of Communications FRANKFORT, KY (Mon 26 Sep 2016) - Today, Gov. Matt Bevin paid tribute to the Lindsey Wilson College Singers following their performance in the Capitol Rotunda. The Singers were recently invited by the mayor of Honolulu to represent Kentucky during the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. They will perform at Oceanside near Camp Pendleton on October 7, 2016, and arrive in Hawaii on October 8. The primary commemoration service is October 10. Lindsey Wilson College Singers performance today, Monday, September 26, 2016, in the Capitol Rotunda The Singers have toured extensively through the years, having performed in over 30 states. Recently their travels have included Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico, as well as the New England states and Carnegie Hall. The group is led by Dr. Gerald Chafin, who received his training at Southern Seminary. During the ceremony, Gov. Bevin delivered remarks to the group and presented Dr. Chafin a framed acclamation recognizing the Singers' role as Kentucky's ambassadors in Hawaii next month. "The Lindsey Wilson College Singers are established as a premier and distinguished choral ensemble in the Commonwealth," said Gov. Bevin. "Through the twenty-year leadership of Dr. Gerald L. Chafin, they have established an exemplary concert touring tradition, bringing formal musical experiences to audiences throughout the United States and abroad. We were honored by their performance here today, and know they will be outstanding representatives of the Commonwealth while in Hawaii." Kentuckians and Pearl Harbor survivors Colonel Reagan Scurlock, Staff Sergeant Vaughn Drake, and Staff Sergeant Herman Horn were also recognized at the ceremony.
