CU hires Kristen Hamrick to lead Lady Tiger tennis program By Jordan Alves CU sports information director Campbellsville, KY - Director of athletics Rusty Hollingsworth announced the addition of Kristen Hamrick as the first full-time women's tennis head coach in program history this week. Hamrick, who played at Campbellsville from 2010-2012, takes over the women's program and Kyle Caven will focus solely on the men's team. "I am pleased to announce the hiring of Kristen Hamrick as the new women's tennis head coach," said Hollingsworth. "Kristen brings with her a great deal of experience as a player and a coach. I am certain she will continue building our women's program in terms of numbers and competitiveness. "I would like to say a special thank you to Kyle Caven for coaching both the men's and women's programs for several years. He has done a fantastic job recruiting and coaching both programs. Kyle will continue to lead our men's program." In addition to Hamrick, she will have support from a familiar face and former teammate, as Lindey Charity will serve as the graduate assistant for the women's program. "It's an exciting time for Campbellsville tennis," said Caven. "Kristen will do a great job here at CU continuing on the success of the program. She has some great ideas ready to implement right away. Having another tennis person in the school and area will only help us promote the program better. Kristen, along with Lindy Charity, will do a phenomenal job getting the Lady Tigers ready for action this spring in a very competitive Mid-South Conference." Hamrick returns to Campbellsville after a two-year stint as a player with the Lady Tigers. During her time, she was named Mid-South Conference honorable mention and helped lead the Lady Tigers to their second-consecutive regular season championship in 2011. She was also named a second-team NCCAA All-American in her sophomore season and earned Dean's List honors while also being named an Academic All-Conference performer in the classroom. "I am so thankful that Rusty has given me the opportunity to coach at Campbellsville University," said Hamrick. "He has created an outstanding athletic program at CU. After playing under Coach Caven, I am honored to have the chance to coach alongside him. He has developed a very successful tennis program. God has led me back to Campbellsville University and blessed me with an incredible opportunity to coach." After Hamrick's two years at CU, she transferred to the University of Kentucky where she earned her Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education and graduated in 2014. Hamrick then returned to Anderson County High School, where she was an All-State performer during her prep career, to coach the Lady Bearcats for two seasons. During her career there, she coached two players that went on to play college tennis - Hannah Wampler (University of the Cumberlands) and Ally Hayes (Midway). While playing for Anderson County, Hamrick played as the No. 1 for the Lady Bearcats and ranked No. 13 in the state in Girls 18 singles. She finished as the 8th Region runner-up in singles and played in the state tournament her senior season. Hamrick is currently pursuing a Master's in the Carver School of Social Work and Counseling at Campbellsville. This story was posted on 2016-09-23 10:12:00
