There's no place like Homeplace on fall festival day - TODAY 10 Sep 2016. There's animals to pet and hay wagons to ride. There's good food to eat and arts and crafts to buy. There's ponies to ride and demonstrations to watch. It all begins at 9amCT/10amET at Homeplace on Green River Saturday, September 10, 2016. There's lots to do for the whole family, and this year's fall festival has a more diverse program than any Homeplace Festival so far.

New this year will be an opportunity to visit up close with Allegiant, an American bald eagle and her other raptor friends from Somerset's Liberty Nature Center. Eagles, hawks, falcons, owls are all called raptors, a word that means to grab or capture---which these birds do. There will be exhibits and discussions about Allegiant and the other raptors at 10amCT/11amET and 1pmCT/2pmET. You can have close up visits with the birds all day long.

Come to hear the live music featuring the The Foster Children (11:00), Sharon Payne (12:00), The Carousel Stampede (1:00), Neal Sneed and the Dream Depot Singers (2:00 and the Exie Bluegrass Boys (about 3:15).

This year's festival will also feature for the first time the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Mobile Science Activities Center, a 44-foot van stuffed with interactive activities about how agricultural products impact on us in our every-day lives. The Center includes 10 iPad equipped interactive stations to delve into the environmental aspects of our lives. While designed primarily for grade-school students the Mobile Science Center has proven popular to all ages.

The 300 hay bale maze in the red barn and the activities center under a tent for children 2 to 6 years old are also a part of the festival.

Colonial reenactors are back this year, giving us a look into what Homeplace was like when it was first settled in 1803. Their collection of Kentucky long rifles and other early implements of the pioneers attracted a large crowd at last year's festival. There will an \"any species\" pet contest (10:30-11:15 ET.) treasure hunt for kids under 10 (12:30-1:15) and a dog show (1:00-2:15), and corn hole tournament (2:00-3:45 ET), A Blacksmith, farrier and leather and flint worker will be demonstrating their arts throughout the day.

The only charge is a $10/car parking fee. All of the activities, exhibits, demonstrations and other activities are free. This does not include food, or arts and crafts purchased from vendors.

Homeplace on Green River is located at 5807 New Columbia Road (Kentucky Highway 55) between Columbia and Campbellsville. The entrance is well marked. Additional information is available at www.homeplacefarmky.org.
