Arnold Patterson gives pronunciation lesson for Revisit Knifley

2016-09-04 - Pattersons Bait & Grocery, 5855 Elkhorn Road, Knifley, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
Arnold Patterson, the founder, proprietor emeritus, and entertainer & lecturer-in-chief at Patterson's Bait & Grocery pointed to the word "Knifley" and noted that over and over again, jobbers and distributors will take an order over the phone and confirm details and, most of the time, when they get to the town name, they say, "Knife-ly." It is of course, "Niffly" but how you prounounce it doesn't rattle Knifleyans. They just want everyone to come to the 2016 Revisit Knifley celebration, which gets underway Friday, September 9, 2016 and then explodes with events on the big day, September 10, 2016. Things have been extraordinarily busy in Knifley this Labor Day Weekend, but it's nothing to the thousands who are expected this coming week.

2016-09-10 - Old Knifley Grade Center Campus - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
They simply cook good, in Knifley, KY. The food served in the Old Knifley Grade Center was a delight, today, Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Revisit Knifley. Never heard of anyone getting a plate they didn't like at a Knifley community event, in fact. The price for this plate (above minus one or two pieces of fish, more fries) was $7.99. With the Pepsi cold drink, it was $9.00 even.

Clouds didn't dampen spirit of Revisit Knifley crowds

2016-09-11 - Old Knifley Grade Center Campus - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Clouds coming in from the direction of Roley didn't dampen the spirits of the crowd at Revisit Knifley 2016. Inside, the old Knifley Grade Center, revisitors were enjoying country food the way only Knifley cooks can create it. No official word on the attendance yet, but unofficials reported as big as ever, though some said it was not a spending crowd. Arnold Patterson was really pleased with the success of the Classic Car Show and the Tractor Exhibit at the Crossroads. - EW

2016-09-11 - Old Knifley Grade Center, 12190 Knifley Road, Knifley, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
A featured exhibit this year again: The Along Knifley's Main Street, the miniatures include, lower left and to top: House now remembered as the Hallie Knifley house; it was the home of our Chelf grandparents; the next building, with the diamond skylights, was the L.R. Chelf store, later owned by Hallie Knifley, later by Marshall Chelf, and now lives on as Baker's Store in another location. Then the red two story building - it was the Booth Hovious Bank; then the Jack Hovious' Store; across the four way, the little red structure was the Wheeler Building; and the two story gray structure was the post office building. In the upper corner the small building was Hatfield Restaurant The far end of the miniature village includes Knifley High School, and across the road, the Babe Hovious House (still standing on Re-Visit Knifley DayI, more magnificent than ever) Continuing clockwise on the main street, the large blue building, on the far right, was the skating rink, later Southern States in Knifley; continuing across the Clementsville Road, to the right, the Halcomb Building, then the Ida Bailey home; and, in the lower right, the Murrie Knifley Home. - Ed Waggener Click Read More Accesses the schedule this year and many more photo from Revisit Knifley 2016.
