Allegiant and Friends to be at Homeplace Festival  Allegiant is part of traveling team from Liberty Nature CenterFall Festival 2016 events start at 8:50amCT/9:50amET and continue all day, Saturday, September 10, 2016, with events all day, a HOMEPLACE on GREEN RIVER, 5807 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY. Event is free, but there is a $10 parking fee. Food available. By George Kolbenschlag Here's your chance for close-up visit with Allegiant, a magnificent bald eagle and her other large bird Allegiant is part of the raptor (birds of prey) show from the Liberty Nature Center in Somerset, KY, that will be part of the festival. The Liberty Nature Center is a 27-acre facility that offers sick and injured wildlife a second chance. Most of the birds who come to the Nature Center are treated and released, but some have injuries that would prevent them from surviving in the wild. These "permanent residents" of the Center travel the state of Kentucky and participate in entertaining programs that teach over 10,000 people a year about the importance of wildlife conservation. They will be available for close-up viewing all day and will participate in two 45 minute educational demonstrations at 10amCT/11amET and 1pmCT/2pmET. This year's Homeplace fall festival will also include hay, mule wagon and barrel train rides, an indoor hay bale maze, colonial reenactors, pet and dog shows, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Mobile Science Center featuring hands-on activities that demonstrate the link between agriculture and the food we buy at the stores, arts and crafts sales and demonstration, lots of good food and almost continual music from five local music groups and individuals performing bluegrass, gospel and contemporary music. There will be a $10 per car parking fee, but the only other costs will be for the food and any personal purchases at the festival. There will be no additional charge for any of the rides, demonstrations, exhibits or other activities. Homeplace is an historic farm first settled in 1803. It has been a working farm since that time. A joint effort of Adair, Green and Taylor counties, Homeplace is being restored in an effort to preserve the history of agriculture in Southcentral Kentucky and to provide a place where students can learn about wonders of the outdoor world. It is recognized by the state of Kentucky as "Kentucky's Outdoor Classroom" and that name has been reserved for the farm's exclusive use both by the Secretary of State and the Kentucky Senate. Homeplace is located on state highway 55 between Columbia and Campbellsville at 5807 New Columbia, Road, Campbellsville. There are signs at the Homeplace Road entrance. --George Kolbenschlagfriends.
