Mayor Hardwick has instructed Street Dept to remove antenna Update: Three antennas taken down from stop signs this morning by City of Columbia Street Department are now held at City Hall. The devices had been installed at stop signs at Jamestown & Guthrie, at Greensburg & Marshall Streets, and at Marshall Street & W Frazier Avenue. The owner(s) of the devices is/are still a mystery. Superintendent Rowe says the antennas had been up for a month. Next earlier story, with photos: Anyone know answer to mystery antenna, foot of Jamestown Hill By Ed Waggener Columbia Mayor Curtis Hardwick has directed Donnie Rowe, superintendent of the City Street Department, to remove the antenna atop the stop sign facing Guthrie Street at Jamestown Street. Mayor Hardwick had checked with the City Attorney, and was told he has the authority to order the removal. However, he said, he waited for someone to come forward, acknowledge the ownership of the antenna, explain its purpose, and seek permission for its installation. "We're thinking and hoping that the antenna installation is an innocent act," he said, "but in this day and time, you just don't know." Hardwick said he had asked a representative of the Kentucky Highway Department if they had installed the antenna, and had been assured they had not. The antenna is scheduled to be removed sometime today, he said. Three devices were actually found as removal began -- one antenna had been installed at the stop sign at the corner of Jamestown & Guthrie Streets, one at the corner of Greensburg & Marshall Streets, and a third at the corner of Marshall Street & W Frazier Avenue.
