Urgent Care will be built at Pinewood Shopping Center The new site will be located at 997 Will Walker Lane across from the Walmart shopping center in the Pinewood Shopping Center development. CFMC has had a presence in Adair's health care community since 2008 when they opened the Adair Family Medical Center on Campbellsville Road.New medical center will operate seven days a week. Click on headline for complete story with sketch of standalone facility From Adair CJE Michael Stephens, Columbia Mayor Curtis Hardwick, and Tracey R. Antle, CEO, Cumberland Family Medical Center Urgent Treatment Center Planned for Adair County Cumberland Family Medical Center, Inc. (CFMC), a local community health center network, recently received a grant from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) to construct a new urgent treatment center in Adair County. "We are excited to have received this grant award and even more so to be able to use it to increase access to care in Adair County," states Dr. Eric Loy, CEO of CFMC. "This funding will allow our organization to build a new facility here in Adair County that will complement our current facility already in place. The new site will have extended hours each day to help working people have access to care after normal business hours and at times when they may need it the most." Tentative hours are set from 8amCT to midnight, Monday - Friday, and from 12pmCT to midnight on weekends, seven days per week. In addition to extended hours, the new location will offer all the benefits unique to an urgent treatment center such as outpatient medical care when you cannot reach your usual primary care physician. Additionally, tourists and others who require immediate medical care that is not life-threatening, will appreciate the convenience of the extended hours and ease of accessibility of the urgent treatment setting. The American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine describes Urgent Care Medicine as having components of both Family medicine and Emergency medicine. Providers at these centers have comprehensive knowledge which allows them to address a wide array of medical issues and at the same time, ask the patients to see a specialist if needed or to follow up with their regular family physician. Adair County Judge Executive Michael Stephens expressed his support of this new health option for the county. "I am so happy to see Cumberland Family Medical Center continuing to expand and build on their already established health care community in Adair County. An urgent treatment center is something that that we fully support. The services this clinic can provide are different from what we have seen in the past. This is a service that is often only found in larger, more urban areas and certainly puts us on the cutting edge of health care opportunities - not only for Adair Countians but also for residents of surrounding counties and communities." Judge Stephens continued, "This is a three prong opportunity that brings needed health care that is accessible to working parents and children, especially. It also brings economic development opportunities from which we can all benefit. Lastly, it builds on the strong presence that CFMC has captured in our local school district through the establishment of school-based health centers. All this works together to make Adair County stronger and healthier." Mayor Curtis Hardwick agrees. "I am very excited to hear that Dr. Loy is bringing a new urgent treatment center/clinic to our community. This will provide our citizens another choice for medical services while also creating job opportunities. I am always pleased to see more growth in our community. This is a great asset The new site will be located at 997 Will Walker Lane across from the Walmart shopping center in the Pinewood Shopping Center development. CFMC has had a presence in Adair's health care community since 2008 when they opened the Adair Family Medical Center on Campbellsville Road. Dr. Sherry Jones and Nurse Practitioners Sandra Jones and Debbie Ping continue to provide family practice services to a large patient base at this location. Like Adair Family Medical Center, the new urgent treatment center will accept all insurances, Medicaid, and Medicare, making it yet another means by which CFMC is meeting its mission to provide affordable, accessible, high quality health care to residents of their area. Kentucky's population, especially those in rural areas, continues to be challenged by multiple health disparities. Currently, Kentucky ranks 49 th in smoking, 47th in diabetes, and 45 th in obesity. While smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the US, diabetes ranks 7 th in mortality nationwide while obesity is a leading factor in preventable conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, cancer, and liver and kidney disease according to American's Health Rankings 2015. "Having access to care is key to combating the health challenges in our rural areas," continued Dr. Loy. "The addition of this new facility in an area that is easily accessible and has extended hours of operation is one step in the right direction." The new clinic is tentatively scheduled for opening in 2017. This story was posted on 2016-07-13 14:56:53
