Gov. Bevin names Postsecondary Education Council appointees

FRANKFORT, KY (Tue 5 Jul 2016) - Gov. Matt Bevin today announced six new members to the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). The 16-member board coordinates postsecondary and adult education in the state.



"This is an exciting time within the education community, as we take bold steps to better position our students and our Commonwealth for success," said Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet Secretary Hal Heiner. "Postsecondary institutions will play a pivotal role in developing a stronger Kentucky workforce and citizenry, and I am confident that this distinguished group of new CPE appointees is up to the task." The council is composed of 13 citizen members, one student and one faculty member, all appointed by the governor. The additional member, the commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Education, serves as a non-voting member.
  • Ron Beal, of Bowling Green, has been appointed for the remainder of a term expiring in December 2017. Beal is president of Luvata's Tubes Division with its main U.S. operations center in Franklin.
  • Ben Brandstetter, of Hebron, has been appointed for the remainder of a term expiring in December 2020. Brandstetter is the vice president of the Transportation Engineering Division of Brandstetter Carroll Inc.
  • Luke Mentzer, of Lexington, has been appointed for the remainder of a term expiring in December 2016. Mentzer is an enterprise program manager in acquisitions and mergers for Lexmark International in Lexington.
  • Joe Papalia, of Louisville, has been appointed for the remainder of a term expiring in December 2020. Papalia is chief executive officer of Munich Welding and Deposition Technology Innovations in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
  • Vidya Ravichandran, of Louisville, has been appointed for a term expiring in December 2021. Ravichandran is a technology entrepreneur and owns Glow Touch Technologies in Louisville.
  • Carol Wright, of Tyner, has been appointed for a term expiring in December 2021. Wright is president and chief executive officer of Jackson Energy Cooperative in McKee.
"I look forward to working with our new members as they bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to the Council," said Dr. Bob King, CPE president. "Their contributions will help transform the lives of our students and help our state prosper as we continue our progress to raise educational attainment in Kentucky at all levels, from career-oriented certificates and associate degrees to bachelor's degrees and above." CPE is Kentucky's statewide postsecondary and adult education coordinating agency charged with guiding the reform efforts envisioned by state policy leaders in the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Improvement Act of 1997 and the Adult Education Act of 2000.
