The Adair County Fiscal Court fulfilled some end of the fiscal year housekeeping items and approved a new member of the Columbia/Adair County Utilities District in a brief meeting this morning, Monday, June 27, 2016.

In a routine manner, the six magistrates present, Harold Burton (District 1), Daryl Flatt (2), Sammy Baker (3), Billy Dean Coffey (5), Greg Caldwell (6) and Terry Hadley (7), approved disbursements, budget transfers, and an affiliation agreement with the Adair County Search & Rescue Squad, and the 2016-2017 County Road Aid Resolution.

Appointment to the CAUD Board on split vote

The Court approved Judge Stephens recommendation for a seat on the Columbia/Adair Utilities District Board by a vote of 4-2 with one abstention. Judge Stephens, and Magistrates Billy Dean Coffey, Greg Caldwell, and Terry Hadley voted for Sapp. Magistrate Sammy Baker and Harold Burton voted against the appointment, and Magistrate Daryl Flatt abstained.

Mr. Sapp, a banker and Vice President of First & Farmers National Bank in Columbia, had a long tenure with CAUD during years of some of its greatest progress and was on the board when the Adair County Water Treatment plant was built. He joins Wid Harris, Mike Newton, David Jones, and Junior Brown to complete the five member board. He replaces Barry Stotts.

Affiliation agreement with Adair SAR assures uninterrupted service

The affiliation agreement with Adair County Search & Rescue extends the current agreement which was set to expire June 30, 2016. There was no interruption in the pact, Judge Stephens said.

Insurance stays with KACO

The magistrates voted to keep the county's property-liability and workers compensation insurance with KACO, on a 6-1 vote, with the magistrates all voting for KACO, and CJE Stephens voting no. Judge Stephens said that he preferred to allow private firms, repreented locally to bid on the insurance. He said that he believed even lower rates could have been obtained, but added that he had negotiated better rates than KACO's original take-it-or-leave-it offer. "We got a great price," he said, "but I believe we could have done even better." End of REPORT for Special Called meeting, Mon 27 Jun 2016
