GoVoteKY.com surpasses 100,000 users By Bradford Queen News from KY Attorney General Alison Lundergan Grimes office FRANKFORT, KY (21 Jun 2016) – Just more than three months since the launch of online voter registration, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes today announced that more than 100,000 Kentuckians have used the online portal at GoVoteKY.com to register to vote, or update or check their registration. Grimes publicly launched the portal on March 15, 2016. "The energy surrounding online voter registration in Kentucky is palpable," Grimes said. "Every day, I meet Kentuckians – especially young Kentuckians – who are excited about this new transformational election tool." After launching the registration portal at GoVoteKY.com in March, Grimes embarked on a month-long statewide tour stopping at each of Kentucky's public universities to educate citizens and students on the new feature. Through that work, nearly 8,000 Kentuckians used GoVoteKY.com to register to vote for the first time, including 2,300 18-year-olds who may cast their first ballots this year. Online voter registration improves the accuracy of voter rolls and will lead to a major cost savings for the state, Grimes said. Grimes implemented GoVoteKY.com to make the registration process quick and convenient as a way to help close Kentucky’s voter registration gap, which equals one-third of eligible Kentuckians. The gap is wider among minorities and youth. "We cannot just sit back and accept 30 percent voter turnout. Increasing participation begins with registration," said Grimes. “I am counting on Kentuckians to help us get people registered to vote and then make sure everyone they know shows up to vote in the general election on Nov. 8." GoVoteKY.com is now a one-stop elections resource for Kentuckians. In addition to the online voter registration tool, other features include Kentucky's nationally-recognized military and overseas voter portal, sample ballots, voting location information, and election results.
