The Adair County Ambulance board met last night, Monday, May 9, 2016, and approved several major items, including the purchase of a new ambulance chasis, approval of the first reading of the 2017-18 Budget, and the renewal of the organization's health insurance policy.

Tony Bragg, EMS Director, said, in an interview this morning, that the service will save almost $50,000 by purchasing the new ambulance cab chassis separately and have the unit's "box" renovated.

The Ambulance Board accepted the bid of Don Franklin for approximately $38,000, for the 4 wheel drive unit, which will be delivered in approximately two weeks. At that time it and the box to be renovated will be taken to a refurbishing specialist in Tennessee, to receive a $48,000 renovation to make it like new. Bragg said that the total will come to approximately $86,000. "A completely new ambulance would have been over $130,000. We thought that for that savings, we ought to give it a try."

1st reading of budget approved

The three person board, Chris Quinn, Doug Sapp, and Dr.Robert Brashear, approved a first reading of a $1,280,000 budget. "That's up slightly - approximately $100,000 over the previous year," he said. The vote was unanimous.

Paramedic or paramedic grad will be hired

Director Bragg said that the board will be hiring a new paramedic or paramedic grad to fill the slot which will be left vacant by the retirement of Donald Hare. "In all likelihood," he said, "the hiring will be from within the service." The replacement for the paramedic hired will come from new hires. "We're always looking for new EMT's," he said, adding that the service sees the new EMT program at Adair County High School's Career Center as a major source of new hires in the future. And they are hopeful at an EMT class starting June 7, 2016, taught by Preston Gaskin and Chad Wheet will help supply many EMT's as needed. (See: EMT Class begins June 7, 2016

Reed Bros. approved for renewal of Health policy

Director Bragg said that the Board Approved the renewal of its Human Employee Health Insurance Plan with Reed Bros. Insurance of Columbia, KY.

Present in addition to the Board and Director Bragg were Assistant Director Daryl Flatt, Donald Hare and media.

The Adair County Ambulance Board meets each 2nd Monday meeting at the Adair County Emergency Medical Services Building, 906 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY. Members of the Board are Doug Sapp, Chris Quinn, and Dr. Bob Brashear. Tony Bragg is Director. Daryl Flatt is assistant director. Meetings are open to the public.
