LWC celebrates student achievement with piano recital

By Sabine Eastham
Director of International Student Programs

As part of the annual Academic Celebration Week, where the academic and artistic talents of Lindsey Wilson College students and faculty is celebrated for six days, I had the pleasure of attending a Piano Recital at the Slider Music Hall. In the piano recital were: Jesse LaGrange, Columbia; Hanbeyol Jang, South Korea; Mikoto Okawa, Japan; and Ayaka Maeda, Japan. Performance details follow.

Mr. Jesse LaGrange, Columbia, KY, the son of Dr. John LaGrange, played "Sonate in C Major, K.545 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Ms. Hanbeyol Jang, from South Korea, played "Dizzy Fingers" by Zex Confrey.

Ms. Mikoto Okawa, from Japan, played "Waltz in Minor, Op. Posthumus, BI 150" by Frederic Chopin.

Ms. Ayaka Maeda, from Japan, played "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin.

Ms. Jang, Ms. Okawa and Ms. Maeda have been attending LWC as part of a formal exchange program with schools in Japan, Northern Ireland, and South Korea.

Every year several students come from these sister schools to study at LWC for either a semester or one year while pursuing their degrees at their home universities. Lindsey Wilson College students can study at their overseas schools for a similar length of time. While students live on campus, during their time in Columbia, they are paired with area families who open their hearts to these young people to help them adjust to the "American life".

If you or anybody you know is interested in being a host parent, or have any questions regarding the program, please feel free to contact Sabine Eastham at 270-382-8236 or at easthams@Lindsey.edu. Residents in Adair and surrounding counties are encouraged to apply.
