LWC Track & Field secure top-5 finishes at Centre Invitational

Danville, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's track & field teams both secured top-five team finishes on Saturday at the Centre College Invitational.

The Blue Raider men's program finished as the runner-up at the competition, while the women's team captured fifth place in the team standings.


Lindsey Wilson's men's team accumulated 109 total team points, trailing only event winner Ohio Northern, who collected 166 points en route to victory. The Blue Raiders edged out third-place Cedarville (Ohio) by 20 points.

On the women's side, Lindsey Wilson finished with 50.5 points on day, narrowly edging out sixth-place Wittenberg (Ohio) who finished with 50 points. The Blue Raiders finished 9.5 points behind Spring Arbor (Mich.) and Kentucky Wesleyan, who tied for third place. Ohio Northern won the women's team title with 178.5 total points.

On the day, the Blue Raiders were responsible for eight individual event victories, one relay win, and broke three meet records while grabbing a pair of national "A" standards.

In the track events, Dante Johnson and Austin Hayes each won two events while the men's 4x100 meter relay team secured a win.

Johnson began by breaking the previous meet record of 15.06 seconds and achieved a national "A" standard in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.86 seconds, a new personal best, for his first victory, topping the field of 22. He then followed with a win less than 15 minutes later in the 400 meter dash after crossing the line in 49.60 seconds, beating out 38 other competitors.

Hayes won both the 100 and 200 meter dash events. In the 100 meter dash, he ran a time of 11.34 seconds despite a strong headwind, topping the field of 56. He edged out second place by .02 seconds. In the 200 meters, he posted a time of 22.56 seconds, edging out teammate Deondre Mimms by .02 seconds for the win. Holt Keeling also competed in the event taking sixth place.

The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Johnson, Desmond Mobley, Keeling and Kevin Hallmon won the event with a time of 41.79 seconds, breaking the previous meet record of 42.17 seconds.

Four more victories for the Blue Raiders came in the field events, including a pair of wins by Mobley.

Mobley won both the long jump and high jump events. In the long jump, Mobley shattered the previous meet record of 6.71 meters with a leap of 7.53 meters (24-08.50 feet), securing a national "A" standard in the process. He followed up that performance with a win in the high jump, hitting a height of 1.90 meters (6-02.75 feet), .05 meters ahead of second place.

Matthew Hughes took home the win in the men's shot put after tossing a distance of 14.14 meters (46-04.75 feet), .07 meters better than second place.

Kimberley Stevens provided the final win and the lone event win for the women's team on the day. She won the triple jump after leaping a distance of 11.68 meters (38-04.00 feet), finishing .61 meters better than the next-closest competitor. Stevens added placed fifth in the long jump at 5.18 meters (17-00.00 feet).

A number of Blue Raider competitors grabbed second-place finishes on the day. Chanel Roberts, competing in her first track and field competition of the year, secured a runner-up finish in the shot put event after reaching a distance of 12.63 meters (41-05.25 feet).

A pair of Blue Raiders secured second-place finishes in the men's and women's 400 meter hurdle events. Cameron Murphy grabbed his runner-up finish with a time of 54.85 seconds in the field of 22, while Alexia DeHaven-Boyd took her second place in the women's event with a time of 1:06.98. DeHaven-Boyd finished just .008 seconds behind the event winner.

John-Paul Williamson added a second-place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:03.99 in a field of 56 runners. Williamson was just over four seconds behind the winning time.

Vashawnda Smith ran a season best time of 12.76 seconds in the 100 meter dash, winning her heat and finishing in third place overall out of 50 runners. She would later add a sixth-place finish in the 200 meter dash.

Kaylin Anderson collected a top-10 finish after placing seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:31.92. Teammate Heather Wilson bettered her career time in the same event by more than five seconds to finish in the top 15.

Rachel Green finished tied for fourth place in the women's high jump after reaching a height of 1.47 meters (4-09.75 feet). Brandy Baas notched a sixth place in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 27.59 meters (90-06 feet).

Maria Cozzens recorded a top-10 placement as she finished sixth in 10,000 meter run.
