Gloria Anderson: the beverage of choice

Transplant from Michigan extols the wonders of her favorite Ginger Ale, raising the suspicion that she has not yet graduated from the Adair Assimilation Academy; else why is she not drinking Ski? But the good nature of her letter indicates that she is "good people" the sort we need lot more of here. - EW

Glora Anderson writes:
Ed, I do like your delightful magazine. I am a transplant to Kentucky from Michigana, the original home of Vernors Ginger Ale. The bubbbly delicious drink is my favorite pop (the northern word for bottled soda). I can tell you that the current liquid sold as Vernors Ginger Ale is not the same as I loved as a younger person. It seems that the love of money, being the root of all evil, has influenced the process of producing this fine pop. However, I still beg all Michiganders who might be passing through this way to bring me some because it is harder to come by here.

Now, I looked twice at the photo of your great sandwich in Sunday's edition, with the drink beside it. While that drink could be mistaken for a number of things, it certainly cannot be mistaken for Vernors Ginger Ale. I even looked at my stash to be sure. I would offer you a bottle from my stash but I am guilty of coveting it. - Glora Anderson
Thanks Gloria Anderson. You are right. The Vernors you describe is as good a "pop" as one can drink, a worthy example of the best of your beautiful home state of Michigan, and makes me want to go back again, have a Vernors, and make a pilgrammage to Oceana County in Asparagus Festival Time. Glad you liked the picture, and I'm glad no one yet has realized, yet, that it could be "Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling/Columbia Valley/Vintage 2013/100% Vinafera Rootstock/Established 1967," which it most certainly looks to be, and truth be known, I'd like to be able to purchase right here is Columbia.
