Essie Mayrene Gibson, 75, Metcalfe County, KY (1940-2016)

She was a homemaker and member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Ode & Beulah Compton. Her husband of 51 years, Carl Gibson, survives. She leaves 17 direct living descendants and three boys who were like sons to carry on her legacy.

Essie Mayrene "Sam" Gibson age 75 of Edmonton passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 at NHC of Glasgow, KY.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT, Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY, with burial in the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday and after 9:00 AM Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was born May 22, 1940, the daughter of the late Ode & Beulah Compton. She died Saturday, March 19, 2016, in Glasgow, Barren County, KY, at the age of 75 years, nine months, and 26 days.

She was a homemaker and member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years Carl Gibson of Edmonton, KY, and the following:
  • Three daughters: Lisa Lockhart and husband Ricky of Edmonton, KY; Penny Riddle and husband Tim of Edmonton, KY; and Amanda Gibson of Edmonton, KY

  • Three boys who were like sons: Jeff Compton and wife Michelle of Edmonton, KY; Michael Compton and wife Keisha of Somerset, KY; and Ronnie Wilson and wife Leona of Edmonton, KY

  • Two brothers: Wayne Compton of Edmonton, KY; and Veachel Compton of Louisville, KY
  • Four grandchildren: Tabatha Froedge and husband Joe Billy of Edmonton, KY; Joseph Cawthorn and wife Julie of Edmonton, KY; Samantha Hunter of Edmonton, KY; and Felicia Meadors and husband Chris of Bowling Green, KY

  • Ten great grandchildren

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Spencer Compton.
