He was a native of Glasgow, KY and was a resident of Columbia, KY, at the time of his death. He was a member of a popular, respected Adair County, KY, family. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Samuel and Mary Poff Smith. His wife, Diane Richards Smith, survives. He leaves eight direct living descendants.

Jerry Smith, 68, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Friday, March 18 2016 at 12:34pmET, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY.

Funeral service, Monday, March 21, 2016 at 1pmCT. at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Sunday, March 20, 2016, at the funeral home. Casket Bearers: Shawn Smith, Max Owens, Coy Dean Petty, Troy Petty, Richard Crews, and Billy Jones; honorary: Billy Fred Furkin and Terry Furkin.

He was born August 6, 1947, in Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Samuel and Mary Poff Smith. He died Friday, March 18, 2016, at the age of 68 years, seven months, and 12 days.

Survivors include:
  • His wife: Diane Richards Smith of Columbia, KY

  • One son: Sam (Jennifer) Smith of Columbia, KY

  • One daughter: Natasha (Bobby Jr.) England of Columbia, KY

  • Two brothers: Marty Adkins and Tommy Adkins both of Louisville , KY

  • Five grandchildren: Shawn (Lauren) Smith, Alexis Foster, Makenna Wheeler, Isabella and Jared England

  • One great-grandchild: Theo Smith

  • Several other relatives and friends
