Another change in membership coming on water board CJE has notified Chairman Tim Baker that he will not be re-nominated to serve another term on the Columbia-Adair Utilities District (CAUD) board of trustees. Just this past week, Wid Harris was appointed to fill the vacancy left when Rudy Higginbotham's term expired. Click on headline for complete story with photo(s) By Ed Waggener Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens has notified Columbia-Adair Utilities District Chairman Tim Baker that he will not be re-nominated for another term on the board. A letter to Mr. Baker. Baker's appointment expires tomorrow, March 15, 2016. Judge Stephens, in a telephone interview said that the letter was sent Friday, March 11, 2016. He said that his reason is simple: "I want no hint of nepotism," he said. "That will be no part of my administration." Chairman Tim Baker is the son of Adair County Third District Magistrate Sammy Baker. Magistrate Baker abstained from voting for his son's appointment when he was nominated by then CJE Ann Melton in 2012. Judge Stephens said that his own son was a nominee for the position which became vacant when the appointment of Larry Russell Bryant was invalidated by the Public Service Commission, but he had no hand in the nomination. The eventual nominee was Wid Harris, who will take immediately. Stephens also noted that while his son does sit on a joint city-county Adair County Airport Board, the appointment was a city one, and that Lee Stephens was nominated by Mayor Curtis Hardwick and the nomination was approved by the Columbia City Council.
