Telephone pole on CES campus being replaced

Update: See earlier story: Broken Telephone Pole repair necessitates traffic change at CES

By Calen McKinney, CIS

(7:08pmET, Mon 29 Feb 2016) -The broken telephone pole on Campbellsville Elementary School's campus is being replaced.

Campbellsville Police and Campbellsville Fire & Rescue personnel were called on Monday morning at about 7:30amET, because a pole on Clem Haskins Boulevard had broken and was hanging on an electric wire.

Police and fire personnel helped block traffic as parents were dropping off their children at school.

KU officials were also called to the scene and have been at CES all day working to replace the pole. Work will continue into the evening.

While it isn't known yet why the pole has broken, it is believed high winds might have been a factor.

Power remained on at CES, however, and wasn't interrupted on Monday. No injuries have been reported.

Part of the back CES parking lot has been blocked to make sure no one goes near the pole. Parent pickup plans were altered to accommodate the parking lot closure.

After school activities at CES were canceled on Monday to allow workers time to replace the pole.

Work is expected to be complete soon.

For more information, call the CES office at 270-465-4561.
