Personal commentary

Kudos to Governor Bevin for acknowledging the eight hundred pound gorilla in the room. Our counties and cities have tried to "out muscle" their neighboring counties and cities in their efforts to garner support for their projects for way too long.

Homeplace on Green River is a prime example of a regional project in our area.

Over the years we have received over $750,000, beginning with the original purchase through last year, BECAUSE AND ONLY BECAUSE we are a regional entity governed by Green, Taylor and Adair citizens.

Can you imagine what our three communities would look like today if we had joined hands a decade ago in our efforts to obtain funding for infrastructure projects and in our efforts to recruit industry?

We are an area reaching from the Danville/Lebanon, Bluegrass Parkway Corridor on the North to the I-40 Corridor on the South and from the Bowling Green/Glasgow/Elizabethtown, I-65 Corridor on the West to the Somerset/London, I-75 Corridor on the East. We have great potential to organize as a regional economic and cultural district in much the same way as Northern Kentucky has done.

It is time each of our communities stopped "tripping over the county lines" and falling flat on our faces in our efforts to "out muscle" our neighbors. It is time that we in the Great Wooded South, South Central Kentucky if you will, actually take our state motto to heart, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall."
