When Adair County High School won its first Governor's Cup District Championship in the current string of titles they have claimed, the youngest members of the 2015-2016 roster had not even uttered their first sentence as a baby.

Eleven years later, the ACHS Academic Team has once again claimed the Governor's Cup District Championship. On Thursday, January 28, and Saturday, January 30, representative team members competed at Adair as the hosts of this year's competition.

The Quick Recall team swept through each round of Quick Recall undefeated. The team now has a 10-year undefeated streak against District opponents.

The Future Problem Solving team swept all judges' top rankings for 1st Place in their competition for their 11th Championship in a row as well.

Adair County High School remains the only school south of Louisville and west of Lexington that has ever accomplished this feat in this half of the entire state. This year's competitors in Quick Recall were Courtney Green, Rebecca Montgomery, Eli Jackson, Zane Sanders, Austin Bradshaw, Treyton Grant, Ben Hancock, Dylan Pendleton, Erwin Ruczienski, Trevor Smith, Samuel Willis, Jaiden Taylor, Arabella Caldwell, and Christina Kessinger. This year's Future Problem Solving Team consists of Wes Stone, Trevor Cowan, Noah Ollery, and Brandon Harp.

In addition to the team championships, Adair County had the highest number of individual qualifiers to advance to Region once again. In six different testing areas, each team is allowed to enter up to three competitors. The top five out of all combined schools' representatives in each written assessment category then advance to Region.

Rebecca Montgomery, having already represented the team with the Quick Recall championship, took home two individual 1st Place medals as well. She had one of the highest scores of the Region in Language Arts, and she competed in English Composition for the first time as well, claiming the district title in that event as well. The team shifted Montgomery into the Composition role after having been a former District Champion in Arts and Humanities in previous years.

The team's depth in the category proved successful as Adair swept the Arts and Humanities category with three more individual award winners. Eli Jackson won 1st Place, Treyton Grant captured 2nd Place, and Zane Sanders took home 3rd.

Courtney Green joined Jackson, Grant, Sanders, and Montgomery as team members who won two individual awards on the day. Green finished in 3rd Place in Math and 4th Place in Language Arts. In addition to the Arts and Humanities sweep, Eli Jackson claimed 2nd Place in Science to advance to Region. Treyton Grant finished in 3rd Place in Language Arts, making it another category in which Adair had the maximum of three competitors finishing in the Top 5. Zane Sanders won the District Championship in Social Studies, making that another of the team's District Championships on the day. Benjamin Hancock gave the team their fifth individual Written Assessment victory on the day when he was announced the Science 1st Place recipient.

Also taking Top 5 slots in these two events, Austin Bradshaw won 4th Place in Social Studies, and Jaiden Taylor advanced to Region as a 9th grade student in his first year of competition by earning 5th Place in Science.

Joining Taylor as another 9th grader to earn a medal, Christina Kessinger advanced in Composition by getting 5th Place. Wes Stone took home 4th Place in the Composition event in addition to being a part of the District Champion Future Problem Solving team.

Regional Championships will be held on February 16 and 20 at South Warren High School featuring all qualifiers from four Districts that stretch all the way to the Bowling Green area.
