Explosion reported in Bearwallow Community

An explosion has been reported on M Coomer Road in the Bearwallow community of Adair County, Kentucky, on Highway 206.

State Police and the coroner have been dispatched to the home of Mitchell Coomer, and numerous Fire Departments are on the scene.



The explosion, according to a local source, occurred while Mitchell Coomer, a famed racing car driver, was working with natural gas.

Sheriff Harrison Moss and deputies are controlling traffic attempting to go down the M Coomer Road tonight after an explosion burned the Coomer home down today.

Coomer family and friends welcomed at Bearwallow

Bearwallow United Methodist Church was opened as a central location for family and friends and first responders after the explosion at the Mitchell Coomer home nearby. It was offered as a rest station and a communications gathering point. Food was brought in by church members and Liberty Road General Store and Deli. - Linda Waggener
