Cool Springs: Feeling bad for the critters! And their farmers

Click on headline for letter with photo(s)

By Guy Babin

Some farmers talk tough, because mostly, they are. Most farmers with livestock; those worth a flip that is, care much more for their animals than they might tell over coffee at the D&F Grocery.

Those farmers typically don't so much get attached to their animals, but a bond does form as they take care of them day and night, through birth and death, both drought and blizzard.

The critters are investments, a product to generate income for many, but they're also individual lives that these farmers are earnestly responsible for regardless of their purpose.

Wet, cold, frustrated, injured, really mad cause the truck is stuck in a gully--these farmers are out there right now doing what they can to make sure their charges are as secure and comfortable as possible.

The scene captured this morning isn't a happy one, but it does cause me to appreciate, and wonder at nature's hardiness - and think of those who tend creatures large and small. - Guy Babin
