Ice & Snow spark memory of his young & invincible USAF days

Long ago and far away.. . . These days I worry about getting over my "ugly bridge" with my city truck when there is ice and or snow on the bridge. It would not have worried me in 1967 because I was younger and invincible. - CHARLES MARSHBURN

By Charles Marshburn

Strange how a little ice and snow can spark a memory, but at 6:10AM a memory was brought about by the change of little ice pellets to snow.

It was 1968 in Great Falls, MT, not too long after the UFO incident there. I was called in the middle of the night to report to the base for a computer war game exercise.

The sergeant on the recall list ahead of me notified me simply by saying, Get yourself to the base - recall"! He didn't say to be careful and watchful of the road conditions. He didn't tell me it was 20 below zero.

I got up and got dressed donning my arctic parka, put my car battery in my 1967 Mustang, unplugged the oil pan heater, and made sure I had my butane lighter to heat the door lock on the car so I could get in. They never worried that this displaced Florida boy would show up at the right time. I was dedicated to the USAF!

These days I worry about getting over my "ugly bridge" with my city truck when there is ice and or snow on the bridge. I would not have worried me. in 1967 because I was younger and invincible.
