LWC Women's Tennis favored to capture MSC title in 2016

By Charlie Balcom

The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team is the favorite to capture the Mid-South Conference regular season title in 2016, according to the MSC Preseason Coaches' Poll released by conference officials on Thursday.

Lindsey Wilson, who has won four-consecutive regular season titles and 11 of the previous 12, received 49 voting points from the conference coaches and seven-of-eight first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

Last season, Lindsey Wilson won the MSC Tournament crown for the 11th-consecutive season and advanced to the NAIA National Semifinals for the fourth-straight year.

Shortly behind the Blue Raiders in second place is Cumberland (Tenn.) with 43 total points and the final first-place vote.

Campbellsville (Ky.) is third with 35 points, followed by Cumberlands (Ky.) and Georgetown (Ky.) is a tie for fourth with 29 points. Shawnee State (Ohio) is sixth with 16 points, Pikeville (Ky.) is seventh with 13 points and St. Catharine is eighth with 10 points.

The Blue Raiders open the 2016 schedule on Feb. 6 against Bellarmine (Ky.).
