Caregivers hear about adult day care and more options

The region's aging population plus epidemic drug addiction were topics discussed at the meeting as factors causing adult day and boarding home care to be a growing industry.

By Linda Waggener

Adult day care services were highlighted at the fourth meeting of the Adair County caregiver support group Wednesday. The meetings take up issues for those caring for adults and offer question and answer times with speakers on different topics each month.

The guest speaker was Mackayla McCloud, RN Case Manager at the Ole Homeplace (0HP) Adult Day Health Care Center in Adair County.

The OHP was founded by the speaker's grandmother Rena McCloud and has grown to locations in four counties. The most recent is the new 24-hour boarding home in Taylor County.

The region's aging population plus epidemic drug addiction was discussed by those in the group as root causes why adult day and boarding home care are a growing industry.

The next meeting is February 3 with guest speaker Sarah Hayes. The March 2 meeting will feature guest speaker April Stauffer, community outreach Coordinator, Lexington. She has had many years experience with Alzheimer's patients, so all who are interested in that subject are encouraged to write down their questions and attend. Meetings begin at 11amCT at the UK Extension Office, 409 Fairgrounds Street, Columbia, and are kept to one hour. A light lunch is provided.

The Adair County caregiver support group meetings are recurrent on each first Wednesday. For more information contact Anabelle Garcia-Burkett at 270-240-7101.
