Sen Wise, Leader Hoover announce town hall meetings

Meetings will be over three days in Seven Counties Of The 16th Senate District Sen Wise and Leader Hoover will be joined by Representatives Ken Upchurch and Bam Carney. Complete list of meetings with times and locations in full article.

FRANKFORT, KY (16 Dec 2015) - Senator Max Wise (R-Campbellsville), along with House Republican Floor Leader Jeff Hoover (R-Jamestown), Representative Bam Carney (R-Campbellsville), and Representative Ken Upchurch (R-Monticello) announced Wednesday plans to hold town hall meetings in the seven counties that make up Kentucky's 16th state senate district: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor and Wayne from December 28-30.

Leader Hoover echoed Senator Wise's comments and also pointed out focal points for the 2016 Regular Session in the passage of a biennial state budget and the need for legislation to address the unfunded liability Kentucky has to its retired teachers' system.

"The upcoming 2016 session is promising to be a crucial one, given it is a budget year and we will also address the current funding situation for the teachers' retirement system," said Leader Hoover. "It's essential that we hear from the public on their ideas and concerns for the 60-day legislative session, and I'm pleased to join Senator Wise for a town hall session." Joining Senator Wise and Leader Hoover along the seven-county, town hall tour will be Representative Ken Upchurch (R-Monticello), whose house district includes McCreary and Wayne counties, in addition to a portion of nearby Pulaski County.

"This is a unique opportunity for constituents to give feedback to Senator Wise, Leader Hoover and myself about your thoughts, concerns, and ideas for the 60-day session of the Kentucky General Assembly set to begin in January," said Rep. Ken Upchurch, R-Monticello. "I'm hopeful that you will attend and speak with all of us, so we can make sure your voices are heard in the Senate and the House."

Representative John "Bam" Carney (R-Campbellsville) also will join the three aforementioned lawmakers at meetings in Taylor and Adair counties.

"I want to thank Senator Wise for the opportunity to join him for a town hall session to hear from you about any thoughts or concerns you have as we prepare to head to Frankfort next month," said Rep. Bam Carney, R-Campbellsville. "Often many of the bills we file during a legislation session come from the public, which makes these town hall sessions important to us in knowing what's important in our districts." "Town hall meetings are a great opportunity for us to hear feedback from constituents heading into a new year and a new legislative session," Senator Wise said. "What a difference a year makes in terms of a new administration and new priorities for our state's government. As we get ready to take on the challenges ahead, we encourage everyone to show up to these meetings and express your right to free speech. I hosted a similar town hall format last year and want to hold true to my campaign promise of being transparent & a citizen legislator to my 16th District constituents."
