Celia Downey: Consider a gift to GRAS this Christmas 'Make a gift count thousands of times over through the prevention of suffering. Personally sponsor a Green River Animal Shelter Animal for Christmas. Click on headline for complete story By Celia Downey This note is in response to the post by Kim Sallee, Director of the Green River Animal Shelter (GRAS). Kim shared the giving opportunity of a donation to Columbia's Animal Shelter. It is worthy to consider in this Christmas Season of charity and caring, especially for those Animals who are who are extremely vulnerable. The Shelter Animals have little voice, with only the hope and the voice that humans grant to them. However, Columbia's Shelter Animals are very fortunate to have the Green River Animal Shelter, as otherwise those Animals would not have protection from cold/heat or provision of food, water, and caring human contact. Many dogs do not have these basic needs, as they are left tied in the cold without any shelter, food, water, or comforting words. When freezing weather arrives their water is frozen resulting in no water. The toll of the animal suffering is lost on those people who do not care or who may not realize the magnitude of the animals' burden and suffering. Today Columbia Magazine highlighted several Animals who have been personally sponsored by people in our community realizing the importance and impact of the Shelter Animal Sponsorship. (See: CM ANIMALS) This sponsorship is a small investment resulting in a magnificent increase in the quality of life for the Shelter Animals. For the holiday season I have chosen to not give more needless gifts/stuff to those who do not need more needless gifts/ stuff. How does one benefit from storing another purse in the closet or add to the DVD collection? I have chosen to support those who need the basics of life such as the Shelter Animals. Those Animals did not choose to be born, much less to live unwanted lives and merely survive in a shelter. It is a blessing that Adair County provides the Shelter for the Strays. Many Shelters are filled with Animals who have been needlessly bred for monetary gain or to live unwanted, neglected, or lost. On a national level, for every one puppy or one kitten born, one Shelter Animal will be euthanized. I learned this on Good Morning America and choose to do the right thing, to sponsor spay and neuter. So, thank you to Kim Sallee, who provided the Christmas Giving Opportunity for the Columbia's Shelter Animals. The personal fulfillment of sponsorship is amazing when you learn that your sponsored Shelter Animal(s) found a worthy home. Make a gift count thousands of times over through the prevention of suffering. Personally sponsor a Green River Animal Shelter Animal for Christmas. I sponsored a dog in remembrance my dog Joe, who died July 1, 2011. The Shelter Dog who I sponsored was adopted by a wonderful home. A Miraculous Christmas Blessing for those lives who need a voice. - Celia This story was posted on 2015-12-19 18:15:36
