Rotary Club helps kick off Christmas in Columbia

The Rotarians traditional Edgar Troutman Memorial Breakfast at the Columbia Baptist Church helped everyone get off to the right start for a big day of events with scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy and hot coffee. Chefs and servers from left are: George Kolbenschlag, Dick Fitzpatrick, Hunter Durham, Derrick Kisita from LWC, Ted Caldwell, David Dalphonse and J. D. Zornes.

Visiting at breakfast at Columbia Baptist Church

Lynn McLean, seated, enjoyed visiting with sisters Rhonda Cox, left, and Marsha Napier at the Rotary breakfast that kicked off Christmas in Columbia. Lynn recalled Rhonda coming to work at the Bank of Columbia some 39 years ago as a high school student co-op worker. She is now the head bookkeeper. Lynn retired from the bank after 30 years as senior vice president.

Young visitor likes Columbia

Visiting downtown Columbia today was young Mathias Craesmeyer,5,the son of Paul Robert and Mariana Craesmeyer, missionaries from Brazil. Mariana said she loved our small town and Mathias enjoyed climbing around the fountain area of the square. They were hosted by Alberta and Vitis Bailey, and will join them tomorrow for Sunday services at Grace Bible Church in Goodlettsville, TN. Alberta said she and her husband enjoy their two-hour drive to church every Sunday as the highlight of their week. They have been attending Grace Church for seven years now.

Helping strengthen the Salvation Army

Aline Babin, right, stopped to share her Christmas season with the Salvation Army. Debbie Cowan, Family Resources Center Director, at ACES and member of the local Salvation Army Service in Adair County, was ringing the bell as shoppers went into the historic courthouse to find booths filled with holiday gift items. Salvation Army collection buckets are available regularly through Christmas at Walmart, IGA and Tractors Supply around Columbia.

Haydon Beard gets a ride at Christmas in Columbia

Bobby and Shirley Morrison brought young Haydon Beard "the first", busy with a yummy sucker, to Christmas in Columbia today. Hayden, son of Jon and Brook Beard of Kinfley, is the first grandchild of Robbie and Tammy Shelton and the first of Johnny and Melinda Beard. The little boy is the first great grandchild of the Morrisons and the first great grandson for Doug and Pat Ferguson of Knifley. Bobby asked if Haydon would like to walk and attempted to let him stand alone among the booths in the old courthouse, but Haydon chose to enjoy the view from the ride on great granddad's shoulder. Both boys seemed very pleased with that arrangement.

Tyler and Seth are the sons of Derrick and Jessica Murphy and the grandsons of Bo and Pam Murphy of Columbia.
