KY Historical Society adds Beshear's portrait to Hall of Governors

FRANKFORT, KY (Dec. 1, 2015) - The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) today added Gov. Steve Beshear's portrait to the Kentucky Hall of Governors at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.

Beshear and his family unveiled the painting by Joy Thomas, a nationally known portrait artist from Murray, at an afternoon ceremony. Thomas completed the painting in 2011 at the end of Beshear's first administration. It has been displayed at the State Capitol Building since then.

"To see that portrait hanging in this hall, alongside these other men and woman who have served as Kentucky's governor, is an honor. "Beshear said. "I appreciate the hard work of my staff and the efforts of all the people and organizations who partnered with us. I am proud of our work to improve the quality of life for Kentuckians over the last eight years. Kentucky is a beautiful, intriguing place to live, raise a family, work and enjoy life. I like to think we made it more so."

A governor's portrait joins the KHS collection as the governor leaves office. The Kentucky Hall of Governors holds portraits of every Kentucky governor, but it is more than just a portrait gallery. It is also an exhibit which educates visitors about the governors and the Commonwealth's highest office. Besides portraits, the Hall of Governors features interactive elements, artifacts, oral histories, fun tidbits from Kentucky politics and biographies of former governors.
