Click on headline for full story with photo of group attending conference By Calen McKinney, Public Information Officer Campbellsville Independent Schools Campbellsville High School GRIT team members gave a presentation at a leadership conference on Monday, November 16, 2015. Students from 13 school districts in Kentucky attended the conference, which was in Owensboro, for an Empowerment Greatness Day. The purpose of the conference was to allow students to share strategies to empower each other to take on more leadership roles. GRIT stands for Goal-Driven Resilient Influential Teens. GRIT was developed as an initiative of the Leader in Me program, which Campbellsville Independent Schools embraces. The CHS GRIT group is made up of 21 students, who are freshmen through seniors. Four of the members – sophomore Wyatt Houk and juniors Shandi Russell, Ricky Smith-Cecil and Sidney Grady – presented at the conference about how CHS uses GRIT and Leader in Me. The others attending the conference went to various sessions to learn about leadership. GRIT team members are freshmen Tristan Johnson, Brandon Greer and Kalisha Murphy; sophomores Vivian Brown, Devonte Cubit, Vonnea Smith, Madison Dial and Wyatt Houk; juniors Yena Shin, Laura Lamb, Brenna Wethington, Logan Brown, Sidney Grady, Latavia Shively, Shandi Russell and Ricky Smith-Cecil; and seniors Brooke Harris, Deston Ford, Kendon Young, Alexus Caldwell and Daejoun Smith. Angie Travis, Is the college and career readiness counselor, and CHS teacher Susan Dabney, co-sponsor the GRIT team. CHS GRIT team members attending the conference were juniors Sidney Grady, Shandi Russell, Yena Shin and Brenna Wethington.
