LWC Volleyball: 2015 MSC Tournament Champions No. 2 Lindsey Wilson volleyball captures MSC Tournament title with 3-0 win over No. 11 Georgetown Click on headline for complete story w/photo of the champions By David Gerhart News from Lindsey Wilson College BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The second-ranked and top-seeded Lindsey Wilson volleyball team captured their third Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship in program history with a 3-0 win over 11th-ranked Georgetown (KY) on Saturday afternoon at South Warren High School. With the victory, the Blue Raiders (33-3) secure the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Championships, which begin on November 21, 2015. Carol Siqueira led the Blue Raiders with 11 kills in the match, while Ragni Knudsen chipped in with nine kills. Knudsen had a .500 attacking percentage in the match. Mackenzie Montano had a match-high 20 assists for Lindsey Wilson. In the first set, Lindsey got off to a strong start as they took an early 11-3 lead over Georgetown (28-6). The Tigers battled back in the set as they tied the frame late at 19-19. However, the Blue Raiders were able to hold off the Georgetown comeback as Lindsey Wilson took the first 25-23. Lindsey Wilson did not trail in the first set as they posted a hitting percentage a .237 hitting percentage, compared of .191 from Georgetown. Georgetown took a 7-4 lead out of the gate in the set, but the Blue Raiders battled back to take a 14-11 lead in the set. Georgetown rebounded to take a 17-16 lead as the frame continued. But the Blue Raiders found a late rhythm and closed out the second set on a 9-2 run to grab the second set 25-19 over the Tigers. The Blue Raiders were looking for the sweep over the Tigers in the third, as they took an 8-4 lead in the early going. Georgetown tried to battle back late in the set as they staved off three match points, but a late service error doomed the Tigers as they Blue Raiders went on to win the set, 25-19, and completed the sweep over Georgetown. It marks the third time this season Lindsey Wilson has defeated Georgetown, including the second 3-0 victory after the Blue Raiders swept the visitors in Biggers Sports Center back on Nov. 3. Lindsey Wilson closed the match with a .216 attacking percentage, while holding the Tigers to .140 for the match. This is the third MSC Tournament Championship in program history and first since the 2012 season. The Blue Raiders snapped their two-game losing streak to Georgetown in postseason play. The Blue Raiders now wait to see where they are going to be placed in the NAIA National Championships, as the brackets for the tournament are released on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 10amCT.
