Edith Murphy Grimes, Casey Co., KY (1928-2015)

She was a native of Woodford County, KY, and a resident of Jefferson County, KY at the time of her death. she was the daughter of the late George and Janie Brown Edwards, and the widow of Sherman Murphy. She leaves 21 living descendants, including one on the way. Edith was a homemaker and member of the Walnut Hill Separate Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook and she enjoyed spending time with her family and working outside in her yard.

Edith Murphy Grimes of Louisville, KY passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was 87.

Funeral services are at 12pmCT/1pmET, Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Rev. Dr. Joey Murphy and Stephen DiPaola officiating. Burial will follow in Murphy Cemetery, Casey County, KY. Visitation is Wednesday from 11amCT/12pmET, until funeral service.

Born January 6, 1928 in Versailles, Woodford County, KY, she was the daughter of the late George and Janie Brown Edwards. She died Saturday, October 17, 2015, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 87 years, nine months, and 11 days.



Survivors include:
  • Her son: Roger (and Linda) Murphy of London, KY

  • A daughter: Kay Means of Louisville, KY

  • Two sisters: Christeen Cochran of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Velma Reed of Indianapolis, Indiana

  • Five grandchildren

  • Thirteen great-grandchildren

  • And a great-great-grandchild on the way
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by Sherman Murphy, husband and the father of her children; an infant brother, Junior Edwards; and sister, Sadie Wheeler.
