City of Columbia appellee in latest response at Court of Appeals

City of Columbia has acted as appellee before, siding with Mayor Hardwick, though Attorneys for Ben Arnold, the write in candidate, contends that only the candidates involved have standing.

By Ed Waggener

There was a new development posted at the Court of Appeals in the Contested November 4, 2014 City of Columbia Mayoral Election.

On Monday, October 12, 2015, the Court of Appeals Step Sheet posted Step No. 20, "Response to petition for rehearing. filed on behalf of appellee, The City of Columbia."

On October 2, 2015, attorneys for Ben Arnold asked for a rehearing of that opinion.

It was not the first time the City of Columbia legal counsel has filed on behalf of the City of Columbia. However, attorneys for Ben Arnold, the write in candidate, consistently maintain that the only parties with standing in the case are Mr. Arnold, Curtis Hardwick, and June Parson.

At this point, a three judge court of appeals panel has ruled in favor of Hardwick, reversing the judgment by Judge Judy Vance, declaring the Nov 2015 election invalid and ordering a new election. The decision was 2-1.
