David Moffett: Water has greenish smell, tastes like dirt

David Moffett writes:
Hi Ed, I live at 207 W Fortune Street (Columbia, KY). Beginning Sunday evening the city water had an odd smell and taste. It smelled "greenish," sort of a high alkaline smell. And basically it tastes bad - sort of like dirt. I didn't pay much attention to it. Then, yesterday morning I made coffee with the water. Soon thereafter I was having stomach cramps. I managed to work in the morning at the college but had to leave around 11amCT. I slept until 4pmCT and then got sick. I think the water is the issue, rather than a stomach bug. Did the water company put something in the water? Or, is there a line break and they don't know it? I thought I should let you know. This morning the water continues to smell and taste bad so I got some bottled water to make coffee. Certainly not going to drink the tap water. Thanks and have a good day, David - DAVID MOFFETT
Thanks, David Moffett for the heads up. We live on the other end of Fortune Street and have noticed a worsening taste - and think it may be because we at the "end of the line" by a water hydrant, which may not have been given its essential every 30 day flushing. But coffee this morning was pretty okay. I'm sure that the Columbia/Adair Utilities District will address the problem when you call them - and may respond to your letter here. If anyone else is experiencing the proble - or not - we'd appreciate a note. - EW
