Trish Zatkoff: Parent finds Supt. Reed, staff are problem solvers

When her son needed a calculus course Adair County High School does not yet offer, Superintendent Reed, Academic Dean Phyllis Curry, and John Shelley, Title I Coordinator, met with her and worked out a dual credit course at a local college. She hopes that whatever differences there are between the board and Superintendent Reed can be worked out for the sake of the students

A mother's personal commentary

I would like to make a statement regarding the local school board's decision concerning the renewal of Alan Reed's contract.

As a parent of a child in the Adair school system, I am very disappointed at the possibility of losing Mr. Reed as Superintendent. He is such an intelligent man who has put everything he has into improving our local educational system.

I recently had issues with the high school not offering a Calculus class that my son, as a senior, will need for college.

Due to the fact that we did not have a teacher for the calculus class at Adair County High, because of circumstances beyond their control, the only option was to take a course at a local college.

I preferred not to have to pay for classes for college yet. I sent a note to Mr. Reed, to which he responded promptly. Just as promptly, he set up an appointment for me to meet with him.

My daughter, son, and I met with Mr. Reed, Phyllis Curry, and and John Shelley. The problem was solved in a matter of minutes. I was so impressed with the professionalism and courtesy that they displayed.

I sincerely hope that whatever problems the board members feel they were representing can be solved.

I hope we can work this out so we can keep Mr Alan Reed as our Superintendent.

Respectfully, Trish (Hadley) Zatkoff
