Campbellsville, KY (Sat 19 Sep 2015) - Campbellsville University student-athletes put on their rubber gloves and donned old clothes today for a morning spent on the shores of Green River Lake and the 29th Annual Cleanup.

More than 100 athletes volunteered along with many others from the community. Other volunteers consisted of various school groups, local community members, Boy Scouts and many others from surrounding communities.

This was the third year that the athletic from CU teams came together to give back during this event.

Campbellsville University is a Champions of Character Institution and along with that the students, faculty, athletes, coaches, and staff honor the five core values that the Champions of Characters stand for; respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

Partnering with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and cleaning up the lake helps the government save time and money.

There are three main areas where athletes spent their time -- Smith Ridge, Lone Valley, and Ramp 1. All the volunteers were spread across these areas in order to collect as much trash as possible during the two-hour event.

Afterwards the teams and other volunteers came together at Lone Valley and shared a lunch. - Kasey Ricketts
