LWC Homecoming Fri-Sat 18-19 Sep 2015 Lindsey Wilson College to honor eight, soccer alumni at its 84th homecoming weekend Click on headline for complete story By Duane Bonifer Columbia, KY - Five alumni and three longtime friends of the college will be honored at Lindsey Wilson College's 84th homecoming weekend, to be held September 18-19. The weekend will also feature several reunions, including a reunion of the college's soccer alumni. "Because this year's homecoming weekend actually falls before the autumnal equinox (September 23), we're going to celebrate the last official weekend of summer this year," said LWC Director of Alumni Relations Randy Burns. This year's LWC homecoming will also feature the first home LWC football game of the season as well as free tethered hot-air balloon rides. At the Alumni Awards & Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration, three alumni will be inducted into the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame and five individuals will be honored by the LWC National Alumni Association. The event will be held at 10amCT Saturday, September 19, in Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive. The new members of the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame are: former soccer players Natasha Hale '02 and Nora Ohrnberg '03, and former tennis player Nicolas Cabrini '04. Hale and Ohrnberg are the first former female soccer players to be inducted into the hall of fame, and Cabrini is the first tennis player to be enshrined. The LWC National Alumni Association will honor two alumni and three longtime friends of LWC.> The two alumni:
"It's become a great event because it involves so many members and areas of the Lindsey Wilson community," Burns said. "It's been great to see the connection between the college's athletic department and alumni program because athletics has played a big part in the college's history." Reunion of Soccer Alumni Another big part of homecoming weekend will be a reunion of LWC soccer alumni, who will be recognized at the Friday night soccer matches at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive. LWC soccer history dates to 1990. And Burns said there is a lot of history -- and culture -- in that more than quarter-century of championship soccer, which includes a combined 13 men's and women's NAIA national titles. "Soccer is such a fascinating program at Lindsey Wilson because it has allowed so many international students to attend the college and give the school a cosmopolitan feel," Burns said. "And for this reunion, people are coming back from all over the world to reconnect and celebrate more than 25 years of world-class soccer being played in Southcentral Kentucky" Homecoming football game Following Saturday's LWC-Bluefield (VA) College football game -- which kicks off at 1:30pmCT at Blue Raider Stadium, 928 Russell Road -- a post-game party will be held on the Campus Quadrangle. The event -- which will be from 4:30-7pmCT -- will include music, food and free tethered hot-air balloon rides. "If you've ever wanted to see what Lindsey Wilson and Columbia look like from 75-80 feet up in the air, this will be your chance to see both from a whole new perspective," Burns said.
