Adair Fiscal Court releases stipend to C/AC Airport Board Adair Fiscal Court, Regular Session, August 11, 2015 Perry Parrish (updated), Buddy Sewell ask for and get $7,700 in support, already budgeted, from Adair Fiscal Court. By Ed Waggener Columbia/Adair County Airport board members Perry Parrish and Buddy Sewell successfully appealed to Adair Fiscal Court for $7,700 aid and received it. The money had been budgeted in the past two fiscal years, for $7,000 each year, but was not paid last year. Magistrate Sammy Baker (District 3), moved that the full $7,700 be released, in part to make up for the failure to pay the stipend one year ago. The money is needed now for operating expenses and a lease payment. The local airport has been hampered by losing revenue from fuel sales because of equipment failure, Parrish said. He said that the Board is hoping an approximately $400,000 state grant will come through shortly. With the grant, the fuel station would be put back in service, and a number of runway and grounds projects could be complete. Hale said that could lead to qualification for future grants to extend the runway to 6,000 feet, allowing small jet aircraft landings at the field, and an upgrade become a NIPIAS category airport. (NIPIAS=National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems). Hale cited economic development aspects of having a NIPIAS airport, including for local business, charter services, use of local hotels and restaurants, and for corporate visits to branch plants. The votes to release the funds came in two separate but related actions, both on a motion by Magistrate Sammy Baker (District 3) with the entire court including CJE Mike Stephens, joining in the affirmative for 8-) votes.
