Special Attorney's Statement, to date: $12,123 Judge Stephens says the total, to the best he and the board member can determine, is for work done between May 14, 2015, and today, August 12, 2015. In the spirit of transparency in all matters related to the Adair Fiscal Court and taxing districts, he said that he would continue to keep the citizens of Adair County informed. UPDATE: General Manager Lenny Stone said that, to Mr. Talley will not be at the next meeting, he said, unless it is at a board member's direction. - EW Related story: CAUD meets Thu 13 Aug 2015: Agenda By Ed Waggener Adair County Judge Executive Michael Stephens has learned through a board member of Columbia/Adair County Utilities District (CAUD) that the statement from Damon Talley has arrived at CAUD headquarters. "It is for $12,123.00," Judge Stephens said. Mr. Talley was hired at CAUD's May 14, 2015 at the Columbia/Adair County Utilities District for the purpose of representing the District in possible litigation at a rate of $332.00 per hour. Mr. Talley, one of the state's most respected utilities attorneys. He works from his Hodgenville, KY office, and is a member of the law firm of Stoll-Keenon-Ogden, a law firm with offices in Lexington and Louisville, KY. Judge Stephens said, in reporting the fee, "I am not against lawyers and paying necessary legal fees. But look at what's happening here. The hospital is drowning in legal fees. Last night the Court voted to pay over $5,000 for legal work for which I do not believe it is obligated." He continued, "Now we have the water district hiring a special attorney for litigation at $332 as a pre-emptive strike, when there is not one word or anything in writing to suggest there would be a lawsuit. Judge Stephens said that he will continue to exercise due diligence at the water district as necessary to maintain the citizens interest. He is following developments at CAUD very closely, he said.
