Barnetts Creek Church Button-Lady spotted in New Hampshire The writer, BJ Hagy and Sue Sinks Barber grew up in the 1950s -1960s in Barnetts creek. He now lives in New Hampshire, she in Texas. He's communicated with members of the family over the year and was shocked to learn she had announced she was going on a "button drunk," but at a meeting in Manchester he learned what that term is all about, and they learned other details which told them what a small world it really is Click on headline for complete story with photo(s) By BJ Hagy I caught up with a friend of mine from Barnetts Creek, KY today, Sue Sinks Barber. Her father, Harry Sinks, was our preacher at the old Barnetts Creek Evangelical United Brethren Church back in the 1950-1960s era. We figured it has been about 52 years since we were together last. Sue, now from Texas and me in New Hampshire. It's a small world. She now has a son living in Manchester, NH. My son lived there until just about a month ago then moved to Boston, MA for a new job. Sue had recently posted on Facebook that she was on a "Button-drunk," which I wasn't sure I wanted to even know what that was. I suspected that she was a "button aficionado" and she confirmed it, stating she was in Manchester, NH for the National Button Convention. I told her I would bet my friend that I used to work with, Cheryl Killiam, would have been there too. I described Cheryl to Sue and she laughed and said. "I bought a 'button-decorated' shirt from her. Small world indeed. Anyhow, we went to Manchester tonight and met her and her family for an ice cream, and caught up briefly on the past 52 years (is that even possible?). Sue is wearing her new button shirt in the below picture. It was great catching up with her. There was an article in Columbia Magazine a couple of years ago about her father and grandfather and the churches they had been involved with during their lives.
