WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-01) is pleased to announce grants to six area fire departments from the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.<

The Mayfield Fire Department will receive $227,273 specifically for vehicle acquisition. The Summer Shade Volunteer Fire Department in Metcalfe County will receive $61,905, and the Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department in Adair County will receive $55,058. In addition, the Elkton Volunteer Fire Department in Todd County will receive $38,096, the Grapevine Community Volunteer Fire Department in Hopkins County will receive $34,517, and the Robards Community Fire Department in Henderson County will receive $26,381. These grants will provide federal funding toward much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training under the operations and safety program.

"I am delighted to see the Summer Shade, Knifley Area, Elkton, Grapevine, and Robards Fire Departments, along with the Mayfield Fire Department, receive these important federal resources," said Whitfield. "These fire prevention and safety projects will provide more security and service in crisis situations within these communities, and assist the neighboring areas as well."
