Nunn/Cumberland Parkway in Pulaski County - both eastbound and westbound - between mile point 78 and ending at mile point 85 on Tuesday, July 7. Work began on March 9 and was scheduled to be performed in two phases. Phase one which began at mile point 72 (Russell - Pulaski County line) and ended at mile point 78.35 (Nancy Exit) was completed last month. Phase two, which begins next week, will begin at mile point 78.35 (Nancy Exit) and end at mile point 84.3 (Fishing Creek). Right travel lanes will be the first to close. Once right lanes and shoulders have been completed traffic shifts will occur and work will begin on left travel lanes. Both phases consist of milling and paving operations along with shoulder repairs, grade, drain and ditching improvements. Speed limits will be reduced from 70 to 55 mph through the work zone and double fines will be in effect. In addition, lane widths will be reduced to 11 feet. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to allow extra time in reaching their destinations. The project awarded to Hinkle Contracting Company, LLC in the amount of $8.7 million is part of a series of rehabilitation and improvement projects along the Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway corridor within the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 region. Work is scheduled to be completed by October 15. The start date and duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
