Paddle Adair Trial meets criteria for Trail Town certification Columbia/AC on track to become certified Trail Town, USA, following successful Paddle Adair Trial on Russell Creek, Saturday, May 30, 2015. Certification seems certain, with three major steps to be completed by September: 1) An detailed action plan, 2) Completion of a kiosk at the trail head, and 3) An map all trails. A note on the trial day: We had a beautiful day and that morning the square looked like something out of a magazine with FM2 in full swing, trucks with kayaks in their beds and registration taking place at the historic courthouse - ELLEN ZORNES By Ellen Zornes The Trail Town Committee Chairs met this afternoon, Monday, June 8, 2015, with Elaine Wilson, Kentucky Adventure Tourism Director, about our next steps after our successful Trial Run that was held Saturday, May 30 on Russell Creek. It was determined that we are in good shape to become a certified Trail Town after we complete a few necessary assessments, map all our trails (hiking, biking, kayak and canoeing, horseback and off road), put up a kiosk at what will be our trailhead and complete our Action Plan paperwork. We had a beautiful day and that morning the square looked like something out of a magazine with FM2 in full swing, trucks with kayaks in their beds and registration taking place at the historic courthouse. The creek bottom at the put in was colorful and picturesque with the many colored kayaks waiting to enter the creek. It all was reminiscent of popular tourism destinations I have seen. With all our community has to offer there is no reason we can’t be a popular tourism destination as well. Our committees will be meeting again soon to continue work on the Action Plan as well as a walk through of the town to visualize what is needed. Part of this plan is that we will be working with Lindsey Wilson and Adair County High students on projects that will really help pull it all together. Still a lot to do, but with the earlier committee meetings we have had we’re well on our way. If you would like to be on one of our Trail Town committees, we’d love to have you. For more information just call the library at 270-384-2472 and they can direct you. - Ellen This story was posted on 2015-06-08 18:28:25
