Where in the World??? Mickey's Radiator Shop, Russell Co., KY 'It was evident from that Linda & I had stumbled upon an interesting location which was more than curious landmark; it was, in a way, another monument to a legend.' If you go: (Google Map: it's at Mt. Pleasant Road at R. Thompson Road, Russell Springs, KY) Next previous Where in the World: Where in the World??? Latest is from Old Creelsboro, KY by Linda & Ed Waggener Two people responded quickly with correct answers as to where the old Mickey's Radiator Shop sign was located, after this Where in the World was posted Sunday evening, May 31, 2015. - Larry Joe Murray sent the correct answer a few hours after the puzzle was posted. He wrote at 4:35amCT, Mon 1 Jun 2015: "I think that this picture is on Mt Pleasant Road in Russell County and it is of Mickey Williams Radiator Shop and he also raced cars back in the day; and, I might add, was a great driver." - Dale Burton wrote a little later, at 12:22pmCT, "Sign pictured is in Russell Co. off Blair Schoolhouse Road. at Mickey Williams old garage and radiator shop. I have had Mickey to fix radiators before. He used to be in the Army with my dad. Was also a very successful dirt racecar driver." It was evident from their responses that Linda & I had stumbled upon an interesting location which was more than curious landmark, it was, in a way, another monument to a legend. When we searched on Google, there was a thread on Topix Campbellsville Forum, that gave hints of Mickey Williams stature in the Dirt Track Racing Circuit of his day. That link is Mickey Williams...Flying 20.... We later asked a friend who always knows about these things. He wrote that Mickey's real name was Dennis Reed Williams, that he had died in 2009, and that there are photos of him as a young soldier, of Mickey in his Flying 20 car, and of the grave marker in the Hudson Family Cemetery on Hudson Cemetery Road - almost within shouting distance of Mickey's Radiator Shop, all at Dennis Reed "Mickey" Williams. Linda and I will be posting another Where Are We??? shortly. Thanks for your interest in the series. To tell the truth, it has been more fun for us than we'd imagined. Continued comments on any of them are always welcome. - EW This story was posted on 2015-06-06 13:19:04
