Donald Edward Christie, 76, Taylor County, KY (1937-2015)


He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served his country honorably in the United States Army. He retired as Sergeant First Class after twenty years of service. He was awarded numerous decorations including the Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal.He loved to talk, never met a stranger and was an avid bingo player. He was the son of the late Ed Christie & Maude Harden Christie. His wife of over 26 years, Vivian Wilcher Christie, survives. He leaves

He was a member of the American Legion Edwards O’Banion Post No. 82. Donald Edward Christie, 76, of Campbellsville, KY, died at 3:03pmET, Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in Louisville, KY.

Funeral services will be at 10amCT/11amET, Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Arnold Moon Burial will be in Elk Horn Cemetery with full military honors by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, Monday, May 25, 2015 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.



Donald Edward Christie, Taylor County, KY (1937-2015)

Donald Edward Christie of Campbellsville, KY, was the son of the late Ed Christie and Maude Harden Christie, was born July 1, 1938, in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served his country honorably in the United States Army. He retired as Sergeant First Class after twenty years of service. He was awarded numerous decorations including: the Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Star, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal.

He loved to talk, never met a stranger and was an avid bingo player.

He was a member of the American Legion Edwards O’Banion Post No. 82.

He united in marriage to Vivian Wilcher November 11, 1988.

Besides his wife, Vivian Wilcher Christie of Campbellsville, he is survived by the following:
  • One daughter, Debbie Druin of Campbellsville, KY
  • Two step-daughters: Jennifer Allen and husband David; and Denise Walters and husband, Gary Wayne of Campbellsville, KY
  • Ten grandchildren: Robby McColley,Khandin McColley, Karissa Skaggs and husband, Josh, Amythyst McColley, Taz McColley, Jesse Walters and wife, Natalie, Kyle Newton, Austin Allen, Cade Ray and Tray Flinchum
  • Five great-grandchildren: Zavian McColley, Kaylee Skaggs, Draven Skaggs, Jackson Skaggs and Amaurie Benham
  • Several nieces and nephews
  • And many other relatives and friends
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rindi Christie 2005; one step-son, Jimmy Goode 1994; three brothers and four sisters: Merlin Christie, Harland Christie, Garnett Christie, Audrey Bright, Jean Rooks, Edna Irene Robbins and Mayola Campbell.
