Geo. Kolbenschlag: Great reappointment - Mr. Burns on CACEDA And the Mayor's praise for the Garden Club and City Street Department was justified, in respect to the downtown beautification. But he thinks lethargy is winning, that City Council needs to be sequestered to face and deal with probems until they do the job they were elected to do By George Kolbenschlag Personal commentary I would like to thank the city council for confirming the mayor's appointment of Randy Burns to the CACEDA and the mayor for mentioning the Garden Club and City Street Department for beautifying the city. Both are commendable. Much of the rest of their activity, or lack thereof, was not. While several members tried to get some things done, in the end, once again, lethargy won. I suggest we sequester the city council until they deal with the rest of the issues facing the city. No breaks, no TV or Columbia Magazine, escorted trips to the necessary rooms sequestration. Their 23 minute meetings are just not going to get the job done we elected them to do. It reminds me of Nero standing on the roof playing his fiddle while Rome burned. How about herding the city council into a room, locking the door and not letting them out until they take some definitive actions on some of the real issues facing our fair city--and there are some. I think representatives of the media should be shut in with them too, so someone can keep an eye on them and make periodic reports on their action or inaction. I will be glad to furnish all of the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and bottled water needed to keep them going until they come to grips with the real issues facing Columbia. I will even throw in ham sandwichs and a lemonade for the media. --George Kolbenschlag This story was posted on 2015-05-07 13:08:59
