LWC Bonner Scholar Seniors impact on region recognized

LWC to award 210 degrees at the 2015 commencement

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College community recognized the senior members of its Bonner Scholar Program Wednesday night, May 6, 2015, at the Emily Hundley President's Home.

Over the last four academic years, the 17 Bonner Scholar seniors combined to give more than 33,000 hours of service-learning to the region, according to Amy Thompson-Wells, LWC director of civic engagement and student leadership and co-director of the Bonner Scholar Program. The gross value of that service in labor is about $256,000, Thompson-Wells said.



Created in 2005-06 in partnership with the Bonner Foundation of Princeton, NJ, the LWC Bonner Scholar Program aims to transform the lives of students, the life of their campuses, their local communities and the world through service and leadership.

This year's seniors were: Amber Clark of Kennesaw, Ga.; Heather Franks of Monticello, KY; Brooke Harmon of Columbia; Jonathan Joseph of Louisville, KY; Lauren Kinser of Elizabethtown, KY; Katie Koper of Central City, KY; Lois Jean Lanham of Lebanon, KY; Carrie Mason of Canmer, KY; Alison McGaughey of Mount Eden, KY; Nicole Pierce of Eubank, KY; Wendy Price of Berea, KY; Will Rich of Columbia; Bailey Scott of Auburn, KY; Brenna Smith of Corbin, KY; Dariann Smith of Columbia; Lauren Thompson of Russell, KY; and DeResha Walkup of Columbia.

LWC will award a total of 210 undergraduate and graduate degrees its 101st commencement ceremony, which will be held at 10amCT Saturday, May 9, 2015 in Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

Kentucky Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services Audrey Tayse Haynes, who is an Adair County native and Lindsey Wilson alumna, will deliver the spring commencement address. Haynes will also receive an honorary doctorate from LWC, as will trustee emeritus Tom Carter of Danville, KY Following commencement ceremony, the Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association will hold a reception for graduates and guests in Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY. The ceremony will be shown on closed-circuit television in the Norma & Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship, 402 Helen Flatt Drive, and it will be carried lived on DuoCounty Channel 2, and via lindsey.edu on the Lindsey Wilson Stretch Internet channel: bit.ly/lwcstretch.
